Working towards my PPL
I have started working towards getting my Private Pilot's License. Flying is great. I should have started this years ago. I had my first flight in Lee's Summit, Missouri. It was fantastic and I knew I would have to continue flying. Learning to fly though is very expensive and time consuming. The day I did my solo flight was fantastic. I wouldn't doubt that people on the ground could have heard me from the plane. I was so excited. I did my solo in Cambridge, England.
Grand Cayman Holiday
Had a fantastic time in Grand Cayman. This photo was taken at Rum Point Beach.
I have recently started playing my guitars again after a long break. I am self taught so it has been hard. When I first started learning the guitar in my teens, a long time ago now, there was no such thing as the Internet, You Tube, or Video Surgeon. It was simply a matter of wearing out the grooves on my LPs by playing them over and over again and trying to get it right on the guitar. I bought a couple books containing sheet music and a book of chords. That was it.
Although I enjoyed playing, I never really got past the "bedroom" playing and I was never confident enough to play for people other than my small group of friends. Eventually, finding the time to play was getting more and more difficult and I just sort of quit playing.
When my youngest son, Oliver, said he wanted to learn to play the guitar, we bought him one for Christmas and I decided to pull my guitar out so I could play along with him and teach him the few chords I knew until we could find him a proper teacher. Using all modern technology at my disposal, I started watching various videos on You Tube and various other sites. It took a while to build up my fingers again but now I am so glad I've taken the time to start playing again. I am still self taught and you can rest assured that I will not be putting Clapton, Moore, or Montgomery out of work any time soon, but I find it very relaxing trying to learn new songs and most of all I love spending the time playing guitar with Oliver. He's coming along leaps and bounds now.
I decided to use this site to host the songs I enjoy learning to play and a number of the tools I have discovered in my travels that I found useful.
