20 | Ezekiel Beaman4 was born around 1827 in Owen County, Indiana. He married Mary "Palley" Nichols on March 19, 1843, in Owen County. They had as many as ten children. The family left Owen County by 1854 and moved to Decatur County, Iowa. In 1856 they lived in Long Creek Township next to his brothers, sisters, and mother. By 1860 they moved northeast to Union Township, Warren County, Iowa,[Cen 1860] and probably moved back southwest to Doyle Township, Clarke County, Iowa in the early 1860s. Ezekiel Beaman died on December 7, 1865, like in Clarke County. He is buried at Hopeville Cemetery in Doyle Township. After Ezekiel's death, Mary continued to live in Doyle Township[Cen 1870]. She later remarried to Robert Combs after 1870. Mary "Palley" (Nichols Beaman) Combs died on April 4, 1892, in Clarke County. She is buried at Hopeville Cemetery, Hopeville, Clarke County. | Family: F413

Ephraim Jackson's Company in Canada 1 Military Service: 1775 Private at the Lexington Alarm 1 Military Service: BET MAY AND DEC 1775 Ensign in Col. Ephraim Doolittle's Regiment 1 Event: Military 1 JAN 1776 1st Lieutenant in 4th Continental Infantry 1 Event: Military BET 1 JUL 1781 AND 1790 Lieutenant-Colonel of the 7th Regiment Mass. Militia 1 Residence: 1790 Ohio 1 Residence: 1766 Barre, Massachusetts. United States 1 Residence: 1768 Rutland, Massachusetts, United States 1 Note: Source: Local and Family Histories: New England, 1600-1900s As a boy of 16 Silas Bent served from April to Dec. 1760 in Capt. Ephraim Jackson's Company in Canada in the French and Indian War. At the Lexington Alarm in 1775 he marched to Cambridge as a private in Capt. Thomas Eustis' Company, being out 12 days. May to Dec. 1775 he was ensign in Capt. Adam Wheeler's Company, Col. Ephraim Doolittle's Regiment in service around Boston. Jan. 1, 1776 1st Lieut. in 4th Continental Infantry; early in 1781 1st Lieut. in 6th Continental Infantry, Col. Thomas Nixon. July 1, 1781 he was commissioned Lieut.-Colonel of the 7th Regiment Mass. Militia, and he seems to have held this office until he left Rutland in 1790 for Ohio. He had moved from Sudbury to Barre in 1766 and to Rutland in 1768. This was also the home of Gen. Rufus Putnam, and Col. Silas Bent held one share in the Ohio Company. His oldest son, SILAS BENT, JR. went to Ohio in 1789, and in 1790 COL. SILAS BENT, his wife and children, left Rutland for Ohio. That they did not go there in 1789, as stated in some Ohio histories, is proved by a deed in Worcester Co., Mass. Land Records 108-598, wherein Silas Bent of Rutland and Mary his wife sold their land there. The deed is dated 1 April 1790, is signed by both Silas and Mary, and one of the witnesses was their daughter, Susanna. The deed was acknowledged by Silas Bent in Worcester Co. 29 May 1790 and recorded 10 June 1790. Gen. Putnam brought his family from Rutland to Marietta in the summer of 1790, and in his party was Benjamin Franklin Stone. Benjamin's Diary states, "The first resident of Marietta that I knew was Col. Bent. He came into the boat to welcome us." Col. Bent was one of the founders of Belpre in 1790.
