JACK FLEISCHMAN IS DRAGGED INTO A THRESHING MACHINE WITH FATAL RESULTS
Was Brought to Antigo Hospital And Operation Performed
But Died Four Hours Later
Funeral Will Be Held St. Johns church Tomorrow Morning
One of the worse accidents that has been reported here for sometime occurred on the Lange farm about five miles southwest of the city yesterday afternoon about three o'clock when Jack Fleischman was caught in a threshing machine, resulting in his death. He was riding by the place with his wife when he stopped and talked with the man that was feeding the machine and said he would feed it for a few minutes. The man knowing that he had had considerable experience, jumped down from the platform and Fleischman was caught in the teeth. He was almost gone. A gash about eight inches long was cut in his skull and had it not been that the engineer, who saw the accident, stopped the engine, he would have been pulled further into the machine.
He was immediately taken to the house and Dr. Donahue was summoned. Upon his arrival, he bandage up the wounds as best he could, but it was very evident that he could not live. He was brought to town and taken to the hospital remaining conscious all the time, but he was suffering so much his arm, which had been torn into shreds, was amputated and had a compound fracture of the skull, he was bandaged up. He lived about four hours after the operation.
Mr. Fleischman was married in June and was living on his farm near the town of Harrison, Marathon County. He was only twenty one years and spent the greater part of his life in this county. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from St. John church, Rev. Father Sarto will conduct the services.

It might somehow tie in with Catherines father, Samual as the DOB is 2 years out from Karl Forney. Could be sibling, or cousin, etc. If so, it gives more detail on Grandfather and origins. To be confirmed.

ALEXANDER HAY (1814-1884), fifth child of John Hay, and Susan (Schmeisser) Hay, was born January 22, 1814, at York, Pennsylvania, and died May 8, 1884,at Philadelphia. He was educated in the schools of his native town, after which he followed the occupation of a hatter in his younger days. Mr. Hay was one of the projectors and builders of the Union Pacific Railroad. During the Civil War, he was sole owner of the Washington and Alexandria Railroad at the time when he re-built the Long Bridge over the Potomac River and was also connected with the Niagara Falls Ship Canal. Mr. Alexander Hay was nationally prominent during Civil War times, he was one of the men whom the Hon. John Covode tried hard, but unsuccessfully, to subpoena in his investigation of President Buchanan. He was a director of the York National Bank and one of the founders of the First National Bank of York. In 1884 this bank purchased from the estate of Alexander Hay, a dwelling house on North George street, upon which was erected a large and commodious banking house. With these enlarged facilities it has continued to increase its business until it has taken high rank in the financial circles of Pennsylvania. Mr. Hay was a large real estate owner in Virginia, York, and Philadelphia. Alexander Hay was married June 24, 1834, to Magdalena Ilgenfritz, a daughter of Daniel Ilgenfritz and Elizabeth (Deitch) Ilgenfritz; she was born at York, September 27, 1815 and died February 5, 1898, at Philadelphia. To this union there were born six children, namely:

1. Thomas Hay, was born at York in 1837, and died in 1907 at Philadelphia; he married Mary Cresson Bradford, who also died at Philadelphia; she was a daughter of Judge Bradford and ---- (WYE: Tacy) (Cresson) Bradford. To Thomas and Mary (Bradford) Hay were born two children: Helen Cresson Hay married William Young, of Norfolk, Virginia; Eugenia Bradford Hay married Dover Thomas, of Philadelphia, now deceased. Mrs. Thomas is now (1920) living at Cape May, New Jersey.

2. Samuel Ilgenfritz Hay, was born in 1841, at York. He died in childhood at York.

3. Mary Jane Hay, was born at York in 1844; she was married to Francis Cushing Nye, of New York, who is deceased. Children: Katherine Hay Nye married George Parker, now deceased; Elizabeth Nye; Mary Nye, a widow; Roland Anthony Nye. This family all reside in Brooklyn, New York.

4. Fannie Elinora Hay. was born at York in 1846; she resides in Philadelphia.

5. Martha Anna Hay, was born at York in 1850. She married Dr. Walter Henry O'Neal, a prominent physician of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where they reside. To them was born a son, Alexander Hay O'Neal, a physician at Parsons, Pennsylvania.

6. Kate Virginia Hay, was born at Philadelphia in 1857; she was married to Prof. Henry B. Nixon, now deceased. Prof. Nixon was one of the most popular and able professors at Gettysburg College, and had the chair of mathematics. To this marriage one son, Thomas Hay Nixon was born at Gettysburg. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College and the United States Military Academy at West Point, and is now a captain in the regular army. Mrs. Kate Virginia (Hay) Nixon resides in Gettysburg.

Mary Ann Hay (WYE: sister of Alexander Hay)

married

KARL FORNEY (1810-1887), who was born in October, 1810, and died March 28, 1887. He was the son of Samuel Forney and Susanna (Karle) Forney.150 The following describes the home where the above Forneys were born, lived and died, with their ancestors, from 1734, until the death on August 27, 1911, of Samuel Hay Forney, son of Karl Forney and Mary Ann (Hay) Forney.151

About few, if any, old mansions of York county cluster richer memories than those of the old Forney homestead, which joins the borough of Hanover. The present owner is Samuel Hay Forney, a retired farmer, well and prominently known throughout this thriving Community.

It was in 1795 that Samuel Forney, grandfather of Samuel H., constructed for himself and family a beautiful Colonial mansion, the substantial character of which is attested by the fact that it is today in a state of excellent preservation. At the time of its erection it was one of the most stately residences of the county, and even then the locality had for generations become by association dear to the Forney family.

John Adam Forney, the original ancestor of the family in York county, migrated from Switzerland, his native land, in 1734, and settled at what is now Hanover, York county, locating on a tract of 6oo acres, much of which he cleared up and put in a state of excellent cultivation.

Philip Forney, son of John Adam and great-grandfather of Samuel Hay Forney, lived on the old Forney farm near the site of the old "long log house," which Michael Fisher remembered as standing under the willow trees at the chain of springs in the "little meadow," on the site ?

150 See sketch of the Forney family in Prowell's Hist. York, Co., vol. 2, pp. 296, 297 Pub. 1907.

151 See sketch of John Hay, page 111.

She left Rockingham County, Virginia Colony and moved to Todd, Kentucky with her brother Elijah Dickenson, and his family.

Last Will and Testament of Frances Dickerson Garton Brown
(In Part)
May 16, 1824
Filed in Todd County, Kentucky, Will Book A, Pages 271 to 272

"And as touching such such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to Bless me in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. After the payment of all my just debts I allow my son Elijah Gartin one dollar and no more and at his request I allow to my black man William so much of my estate as will make him equal with my son William Gartin all but one dollar. I also give and bequeath to my black man James five hundred and fifty eight dollars sixty six cents common currency of the state and if I should be alive I also allow him the half of all he makes to himself after the first July Eighteen hundred and twenty four till my death and no more. I also allow my son John Brown sixty dollars current money of this state and no more. And whatever is left of my estate I allow to equally divided betwixt my sons Nathaniel, Griffith and William and daughters Fanny Shanklin and Elizabeth Duglas, and the heirs of Uriah and Richard Gartin making the heirs of each family equal with one of my sons. I also constitute make and ordain my son, John Brown, the sole executor of this my last will and testament and do dispose renounce and revolk all the former wills legacys and bequests by me in any wise Made..."

Note: Francis (Fanny) Dickerson Garton died on May 18, 1824, two days after her will was written. She was born in 1737 in Spotsylvania, Va. and married Elijah Garton, son of Uriah and Winnifred Garton on March 5, 1751 in Virginia. She is buried in Elkton, Todd County, Kentucky.

As you can see, her son, Elijah must have fallen out of favor with his mother since she only left him $1. He married Sarah Boyd (Boid) and apparently moved from Virginia since he died in Indiana.
